The Big Carrot Natural Food Market is thrilled to open the doors of its second location in June 2018 in Toronto’s east end Beaches community. After 35 years on the Danforth, The Big Carrot is expanding into new neighbourhoods with fresh branding and messaging around the company values and commitments.
The Big Carrot is a worker-owned business with a focus on community development, health education and rigorous food standards. Product procurement prioritizes organic, non-GMO, local, fairly traded goods and sustainable seafood. The store has over 50 direct relationships with local Ontario farmers and has been the launch pad for many small food start-ups.
Community giving is at the core of the company’s commitments. A percentage of annual profits are donated back into community projects and local events. The Carrot Cache is a grant program that invests in promoting organic agriculture and community food strategies. The store also hosts regular workshops and speakers on a variety of health topics to foster health living.
The Beach Community Market is approximately 6000 square feet and will offer all the same departments as the Danforth location, focusing on fresh grab and go foods, an organic smoothie/coffee bar, and a smaller selection of grocery, personal care, and dispensary items. There are 19 free parking spots in the underground parking lot with elevator access to the store.
This location will prohibit the sale of single use plastic water bottles, 2 litres and under as a starting place to help reduce plastic waste and garbage. Customers are encouraged to bring their own bags, bulk containers and Tupperware for grab and go dishes. These eco-actions are rewarded with discounts and bonus customer rewards points.
